Automatic/Automated Identification and Data Capture/Collection (AIDC)

Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) refers to various methods of identifying objects, collecting information about those objects, and entering that information into a computer system without human intervention. RFID is one of several technologies that can be used in an AIDC system. Other applicable technologies include bar codes, optical character recognition, magnetic stripe, biometrics and voice recognition.
