PBwiki Style

RFID Soup is built on PBwiki. Editing a wiki is easy -- that is what wikis are all about!

  1. To get started, take a Tour»

  1. Then play around in the SandBox

  1. You may also want to take a peak at Wiki Style Page» and the "Help" link at the top right of every page.

  1. By now you should know all you need!

If you want to learn even more, you can poke around these pages:

Other Wiki Pages

Just put the page name inside square brackets: [Page Name]. The page name is displayed at the very top of each page to the right of the "|":

RFID Soup | Page Name

(If the page name is CamelCase you do not need the brackets, but (1) many page names are not CamelCase, (2) it does not cause a problem to use the brackets in conjunction with CamelCase, and (3) the brackets makes the links easier to see when looking at the raw wiki code.)

External links

  • Use the web address:

rfidsoup.pbwiki.com

  • Get a cleaner look using square brackets:

[http://rfidsoup.pbwiki.com|RFID Soup] = RFID Soup

  • Force links to open in a new window using HTML:

<a href="http://rfidsoup.pbwiki.com/" target="_blank">RFID Soup»</a> = RFID Soup»

<HTML Tags>

There is a smattering of HTML and Java script used throughout the site. This looks like some funny text inside "< >" brackets. If you are not familiar with this, the easiest thing to do is just leave it alone and stick to editing the plain text stuff. If you are a little more adventurous, you can follow the HTML references in the table above.

Comments / Haloscan

You will see a "Comments" button at the top of the page next to the "Home" and "Edit Page" buttons only if you are logged in. This commenting system is good for use among contributors, but is not obvious to the casual visitor.

Haloscan provides a third-party commenting and trackback system that is obvious to ALL visitors, regardless of log-on status. The raw wiki code for the Haloscan comments / trackback look like:

<!-- BEGIN HALOSCAN: --> <a href="javascript:HaloScan('TERM');" target="_self"><script type="text/javascript">postCount('TERM');</script></a> / <a href="javascript:HaloScanTB('TERM');" target="_self"><script type="text/javascript">postCountTB('TERM'); </script></a> <!-- END HALOSCAN -->

Oops!! Undo Changes

If you mess up irreparably, you can always roll back to an earlier version of the page.

  • In each page's footer, in the left-most box entitled "Page Information," you will find a "history" link.
  • Click the "history" link, and you will see a listing of all page versions beginning with the current version at the top.
  • Click on the link for an earlier version, and this version of the page will be displayed with a "Revert page to this revision" button at the top (assuming you are logged in).
  • Make sure the page displayed is what you want to revert to, and click the button

Create a New Page

There are several ways to create a brand new page. Here is one:

  • Open two browser windows
    • Point one window to the Template page
    • Point the other window to a page that will call the new page
  • Edit the calling page and create a link to the new page
  • Save the calling page. The link to the new page will appear with a broken underline.
  • Click the link to the new page. You will be taken directly to an edit screen.
  • Flip to the other browser window, select the template code (you can do this right from the rendered page), and copy it.
  • Flip back to the first browser window and paste the template in the edit box
  • Built your new content on the template
  • Save the page
  • Assign one or more tags
  • If the calling page above was not one of the main index pages (DefinitionsXX), please add a link on the appropriate index page as well.
